Here is a summer twist on a classic fun paper craft, paper mache!
This is a great way to build a three-dimensional piece of art.
However, this process does take time (plan ahead) but the project is still easy peasy and can be completed with kids.
Newspaper Glue + Water (mix equal parts together) Bowl White Paint Green Tissue Paper Red Tissue Paper Black Permanent Marker Mod Podge
Paper Bowl Tutorial:
Step 1: Prep your materials. Cut a newspaper into strips. Select a bowl to use as a mold and wrap the outside of the bowl and rim with plastic wrap. Step 2: Dip a strip of newspaper into your glue mixture.
Remove the excess glue by running your finger and thumb over the strip.
Lay the strip across the bottom of the bowl. Repeat with another strip while slightly overlapping the strips.
Continue to work up to the rim of the bowl. Allow layer to completely dry (we let it sit overnight). Step 3: Repeat process 3 more times for a total of 4 (or more ) layers. Alternate each layer in the direction you lay the strips. Step 4: Once paper mache is completely dry, carefully peel off your bowl. You may wish to trim the rim with scissors.
Creating a Watermelon Bowl
Step 1: Use your glue mixture to brush on light and dark green tissue paper to cover the outside of the paper mache bowl.
Step 2: Cover the inside of the bowl with red tissue paper. Let dry.
Step 3: Once dry, use a black permanent marker to draw your seeds.
Step 4: Seal the tissue paper with a layer of mod podge.
