Growing up I always made my own homemade Valentine’s Day cards. I loved using new stickers and markers to creatively make cards for family and friends. And of course, I love continuing this tradition with my own children. Last year, we had fun creating Monster Truck Valentines.
However, life can get busy! You may not have time to sit and create homemade cards.
Here is a fun way that your child can develop their creative thinking skills, become confident in their own skills and foster kindness by making and giving cards to loved ones….all in 5 minutes (or longer if you want).
Set up an invitation to create with Process Art Valentine’s for your child.
Develop your child’s creative thinking with process art. Process art focuses on the making of art rather than what the end product looks like. It is about the experience of making or creating the artwork.
There is no wrong way to create process art.
Why is process Art important?
Preschoolers learn through playing, asking questions and being allowed to explore their world or environment. By making their own choices they are developing their creative and critical thinking skills. Process art also helps work and develop fine motor skills.
The Easy 5 Minute Way to Create Process Art Valentines (with Minimal Mess)
Notecards, Drawing Materials (crayons, markers, colored pencils), Stickers, Glue Sticks, Recycled Artwork or Colored Construction Paper.
Just layout whatever you have! Offer choices but not too many, 3-4 different materials works well.
Step 1: Layout the materials in an inviting way for your child.
Step 2: Step out the way and let your child create!
It sometimes can be hard to take a step back but let your child lead the project and take ownership of their valentine card.
Your child may use all the materials or only just a few. Let them explore and try the different ways to make marks on the notecards.
Step 3: Let your child give their card to someone special!
